Ex-NFL player Skrepenak out of prison early in Pa. corruption case

SCRANTON, Pa. -- A former NFL offensive lineman who has been serving time on a public corruption charge in northeastern Pennsylvania has been released early from prison.

Greg Skrepenak (skreh-PAN'-ik) will serve the rest of his term on home confinement. His prison term officially ends June 12 and will be followed by three years of probation

He was sentenced in August 2010 to two years in federal prison for taking a $5,000 bribe from a developer while he was a Luzerne County commissioner.

He now is working full-time as a researcher for a Kingston law firm.

The firm's partners, his friends since the 1990s, say the job allows Skrepenak to live with his parents instead of a halfway house.

Skrepenak was among more than 30 people nabbed in a federal corruption investigation.

Coroner: Son of ex-NFL QB Kramer died from a heroin overdose

LOS ANGELES -- A Los Angeles coroner's office says the cause of death for the 18-year-old son of former NFL quarterback Erik Kramer was a heroin overdose.

Thousand Oaks High School backup quarterback Griffen Kramer was found dead in his Agoura Hills home on Oct. 30.

The Ventura County Star says a toxicological report shows the teenager died of acute morphine heroin toxicity.

Friends told investigators that Kramer began foaming at the mouth while consuming heroin with them. Authorities say one of his friends took him home and laid him down so he could sleep it off. The teen was found dead the next morning.

Five have been arrested in connection with Kramer's death.

Erik Kramer's NFL career spanned from 1987 to 1999. He played with Atlanta, Chicago, San Diego and Detroit.
